The Eco Tan Story

Founded on the Gold Coast by Sonya Driver, Eco Tan grew from a personal search for a truly natural self-tan after her sister's melanoma diagnosis. Frustrated by misleading "natural" claims in the tanning industry, Sonya taught herself to formulate clean, organic products from her own kitchen. How to Use Eco Tan Self-Tanner

For an even, streak-free tan, exfoliate 24 to 48 hours before applying, then smooth the product onto clean, dry skin using long, circular motions. Wash your hands afterwards and allow the tan to develop - most Eco Tan formulas take around 6 to 8 hours, so applying in the evening and leaving it overnight gives the best result. A developed tan typically lasts 7 to 10 days; moisturise daily and avoid harsh soaps to make it last longer.

The Inspiring Eco Tan Story

From humble beginnings on the Gold Coast to making a global impact, Sonya Driver’s Eco Tan story is one of turning personal tragedy into triumph. In 2009, her life changed dramatically when she found herself a redundant, divorced, solo mum. Struggling with her mental health, she sought antidepressants, but her doctor advised her to focus on something positive instead. A two-week volunteer trip to East Timor shifted her mindset, helping her transform pain into purpose that would eventually become the global hit brand Eco Tan.

Soon after, Sonya’s younger sister was diagnosed with melanoma, leaving her in search of a truly natural spray tan that wouldn’t harm her skin. When a beauty therapist claimed her products were “99% natural,” Sonya’s instincts told her to investigate. Uncovering misleading industry claims, she channelled her frustration into creating Eco Tan, driven by a passion for organic, non-toxic ingredients. From her kitchen, she began experimenting, sourcing equipment from eBay, and joining chemist forums to teach herself formulation—a challenging but rewarding journey.

Sonya’s lifelong passion for health and organic products grew into a mission to make a positive difference . Eco Tan embodies a commitment to ethical practices, with profits supporting causes such as homelessness in Australia, domestic violence survivors in Romania, and a safe farm for abused children in Kenya.
