WINTER MOISTURISER FAQ

Your winter moisturiser questions, answered

How should winter moisturising differ from summer?

Cold air holds less moisture and indoor heating strips even more, so a light summer gel often isn't enough. In winter, switch to a richer, ceramide- or butter-based cream that actively repairs the lipid barrier, and apply it to slightly damp skin so you trap that surface water instead of letting it evaporate.

Lotion vs cream vs balm – which do I need?

As a rule of thumb: lotions are lightest, creams suit most winter skin, and balms are richest for very dry zones or overnight. Many testers used a lighter cream in the morning under makeup and a richer cream or balm at night.

Can I layer a moisturiser over a face oil?

Yes – and in winter you often should. Apply your serum, then moisturiser, then press a few drops of face oil on top to seal everything in. If your skin is extremely dry, a pea of balm over your cream on cheeks and around the nose makes a big difference.

Which is best for sensitive or reactive skin?

We'd point you to Fitglow Cloud Comfort Cream (#3) and MV Rose Soothing & Protective Moisturiser (#7). Both are fragrance-light and built around calming, barrier-supporting ingredients. Patch-test any new cream on the inner forearm for 24 hours first.

Are all of these clean and cruelty-free?

Yes. Every brand we stock is independently reviewed: no synthetic fragrance, no parabens, no PEGs, no hormone disruptors, and never tested on animals. Many are certified organic and several are made here in Australia.

How did you test these moisturisers?

Our editors wore each cream daily for at least four weeks through July and August. We rated richness, absorption, wear under makeup and comfort eight hours later, then cross-checked against verified Clean Beauty Market reviews – only creams with a 4.5★ baseline made the final cut.
