The Full Review
Switching to a natural toothpaste can be a frustrating experience. Most of them taste strange, leave a weird film, or just do not feel like they are actually cleaning your teeth. Davids Hydroxi is the exception.
The star ingredient here is nano hydroxyapatite (nHa) - a naturally occurring mineral that makes up the majority of your tooth enamel. Unlike fluoride, which works by creating a protective layer over teeth, nHa actually integrates into the enamel structure to repair and remineralise from within. It is the gold standard in Japanese dental care and is increasingly recognised globally as a superior alternative to fluoride for sensitivity and whitening.
The formula is refreshingly simple. Calcium carbonate provides gentle abrasion, vegetable glycerin keeps things smooth, and birch-derived xylitol adds subtle sweetness while actively fighting cavity-causing bacteria. The peppermint flavour comes from real peppermint and spearmint oils - it is clean, fresh, and not at all overwhelming. Several reviewers specifically called out how much they appreciate the subtle taste compared to other natural toothpastes.
In terms of performance, this toothpaste genuinely delivers. After about two weeks of daily use, there is a noticeable reduction in sensitivity - particularly with cold drinks and foods. Teeth feel cleaner and smoother, and there is a gradual whitening effect that builds over time without any harsh bleaching agents.
The recyclable metal tube is a thoughtful touch. In a category dominated by plastic packaging, Davids has made a genuine commitment to sustainability without compromising on the product experience. The tube dispenses cleanly and rolls up neatly as you use it.
At $13 for 50g or $20 for 113g, this is one of the most affordable clean toothpaste options on the market - especially one with nano hydroxyapatite. Most nHa toothpastes from other brands sit well above this price point.
The only adjustment is the reduced foaming compared to conventional toothpaste. Without SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate), you will not get that big lather. This is actually a good thing - SLS can irritate gums and is unnecessary for cleaning - but it takes a few days to get used to if you are switching from a mainstream brand.
Overall, Davids Hydroxi is exactly what clean oral care should be: effective, affordable, thoughtfully formulated, and genuinely better for you than the conventional alternative.
The best clean toothpaste I have tried. Effective sensitivity relief, genuine whitening, and an affordable price point make this an easy daily switch from conventional toothpaste.
