Rainforest Grown Beauty - The Rahua Story

Rahua products, renowned for their pure ingredients and exceptional performance, owe their existence to a remarkable series of events. Fabian Lliguin, a hairstylist and colourist from New York, discovered the secret to Rahua’s transformative power while working as an environmentalist deep in the Amazon rainforest. During his time educating indigenous communities on land and human rights, he encountered women with stunningly long, lustrous hair. The secret, they shared, was rahua oil—a natural remedy they had used for centuries to nourish their hair and skin.

Intrigued, Fabian brought a bottle of the oil back to New York and tested it on a client with dry, damaged hair. In just 10 minutes, the results were astonishing—her hair transformed from brittle and lifeless to healthy, shiny, and full of bounce. Realising the potential of this unique ingredient, Fabian was determined to respect the traditional methods of the Quechua-Shuar tribe, who produce the oil sustainably through time-honoured rituals.

In 2008, Fabian’s wife and business partner, Anna Ayers, joined the venture. With her background in fashion design and trend forecasting, she collaborated with Fabian to create Rahua—a brand rooted in the wisdom of indigenous communities and dedicated to formulating plant-based products that heal, nourish, and transform.

Today, Rahua works with over 500 families from the Quechua-Shuar, Achuar, and neighbouring tribes to cultivate the rainforest-grown ingredients used in their hair and body care collections, ensuring sustainability and honouring the cultural traditions behind their products.
